The Contest consists of the Semi-final Written Test and the Final Interview. Participants take the Written Test first, and the winners of the Written Test are eligible for the Final Interview.

Semi-final written test

There are 20 test sites covering Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Students are assigned to corresponding test sites according to their school region to participate in the semi-final written test. The Scientific and Questions Committee make questions according to the exam syllabus of each subject.

A participant can get score for clear and correct answers with neat handwriting, full marks for all correct answers, partial score for certain idea and progress in solving the problem. The top 15 winners of the semifinals will be selected for the final interview.

Semi-final Appeal Mechanism

Students may appeal for review of the written examination results by stating the reason in written form. The application shall be reviewed and approved by the lead teacher of the student’s college before submitted to the Scientific and Questions Committee.

Final interview.

The Final Interview is organized by the Competition Headquarters, Yau Mathematical Science Center of Tsinghua University. World-renowned experts are invited to interview and evaluate the finalists. Each student has 40 minutes to prepare before the interview. The interview time is 30 minutes. The Final interview is in English.
