The online registration for the 13th S. -T. Yau College Student Mathematics Contest has officially started on February 15th. The deadline for registration is April 15th (For details, please visit http://yau-contest.com/page-rule.html). The written examination will be held at 19 exam centers nationwide on May 7-8, and the national finals will take place at Tsinghua University on May 28-29.

The S. -T. Yau College Student Mathematics Contest (the Contest) is open to undergraduate students from universities in Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. It includes individual events and team events, focusing on assessing students’ fundamental knowledge and skills in mathematics during their undergraduate studies. The contest problems and syllabus are formulated by Prof. Shing-Tung Yau and a group of leading mathematicians from both China and abroad. The scope and difficulty of the Contest are comparable to the graduate qualification examinations of renowned foreign universities, covering six directions: Analysis and Differential Equations, Geometry and Topology, Algebra and Number Theory, Applied and Computational Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, and Mathematical Physics.

The Contest consists of two assessment forms: the regional written examination and the final interview. The regional written examination is conducted simultaneously at 19 exam centers in Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. For the finals, internationally renowned expert judges are invited to conduct interview assessments for the contestants who have advanced to the finals.

After more than a decade of development, over 11,200 students from more than 600 universities in Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan have participated in the S. -T. Yau College Student Mathematics Contest, with more than 600 students winning awards. Half of the award-winning students have gone on to further their studies at prestigious universities both in China and abroad, such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Harvard University, Yale University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. More than 30 individuals have taken up positions at universities such as Harvard University, Princeton University, Northeastern University, and Paris-Sud University, continuing their in-depth research in mathematics. The S. -T. Yau College Student Mathematics Contest has played a significant role in cultivating Chinese mathematical talents and has become an important avenue for discovering and selecting outstanding graduate students. Moreover, the Contest results have been listed as important reference for admission to mathematics programs at renowned universities both in China and abroad.

The 2022 finals in May welcome outstanding students from all over the country to compete in mathematics at Tsinghua University.
